random thoughts and good advice

Me:  What is it that I really want? Are there new houses on Realtor.com? How many people like my blog? Maybe I should try a new recipe for dinner tonight. What dress should I wear to church tomorrow? Ugh, I don’t want to mop the kitchen floor AGAIN! I don’t want to put away all those clothes. I washed them, I dried them, I folded them and I’m still not done. It’s Labor Day weekend. I should be having fun. But I need to clean. Blah. OMG?! How much time am I wasting thinking about random, stupid stuff and playing words with friends and checking to see if anyone commented on my blog? Why can’t I seem to keep a clean house?

What I imagine my mother would say: Get off your ass. Your arms work. Your legs work. Go wash your windows and clean your house! Put away the laundry. Quit worrying and just work. If you get your work done now, you can relax tomorrow and Monday. You think too much. Work more. Or think while you work, but work! For crying out loud!

Me:  Oh, OK.

I love this. I probably spend a good hour making my list for the day to only accomplish half. I also hate laundry.

    Now you have a comment.

    • Dear Sarah,
You really understand the heart of this piece, as only a sister and fellow mother can. While others may see it as a pathetic attempt to fill space for the day on my blog and to offer up recycled advice that every mother has given to her child for centuries, you see it in all its depths of profundity. For you to put in your time to write me a comment to brighten my day means so much because I know you know, deep down, how very vain and insecure I am in places I don’t like to talk about. That is just so touching. You really understand that my neuroses are something only comments on my blog can remedy. Thank you for your share and your comments. Vous etes vraiment une soeur fidele.

p.s. See, I told you I’d respond to all comments.

    • Coalescedreverie,
Well, yes and no. I followed “my mom’s” advice and got to work, but didn’t get it done. Someday soon, I hope you will have kids…then you will realize just how impossible that makes getting housework done at times. 🙂 But, we decided to have fun anyway. You only live once.
